This year marks the 10 year anniversary of our initial launch of Fresh Metal! To celebrate, we decided to have some fun and get some insight by asking the design team to help us out by providing us with their favorite Fresh Metal casting, as well as their reasoning for it! Read up on them all below, and feel free to send us in your favorite Fresh Metal casting and why for a chance to be featured here on the blog!
FM Casting: 3″ Porsche 356A
Brad Trimmer: I chose this casting because Maisto nailed this casting right on the head. This is one of my favorite shaped automobiles of all time, and when reproducing a model, it is very easy to miss an important element of design that will absolutely ruin the overall aesthetics of the model. Not the case here. The red paint over this shape is something you have to see in person to appreciate. I hope you find one of these gems in your searches. You won’t be disappointed.
FM Casting: 4×4 Rebels Volkswagen Van “Samba”
Bryce Doerksen: Although it’s tough to pick one, I think my favorite Fresh Metal would have to be the 4×4 Rebels VW Samba. I love quirky cars that have been amped up, and a Microbus rebuilt for serious off-roading is the perfect mashup of exaggerated performance and an iconic fun design. Besides the nice weight, great color combo, and chunky silhouette, it hits home for me having grown up in Oregon where VW van dailies are everywhere. A 1:1 would be the perfect camper!
FM Casting: 3″ Leadslinger
Castro: I chose the Leadslinger because it was one of the first Fresh Metal castings I got to design and it’s got Gatling Guns mounted over the engine, I mean what’s not to love about that? Of course it was inspired by movies like Mad Max, The Road Warrior and Death Race. Witness Me!
FM Casting: 4×4 Rebels 1999 Chevrolet Silverado
Ignacio Arreguin: This is one of my favorite toys because, it was around the time I was starting to grasp the design process here at Maisto.
